Natural Resources

Natural resources are living thing that are made by nature.
Fossil Fuels may damage natural resource because when you burn fossil fuels and carbon dioxide that make greenhouse gas and it can cause global warming and the natural can die some of it and some of the natural resources are fossil fuels like oils, natural gas and coals. Global warming are seriously dangerous weather that can make us sick, global warming are weather that make us hotter and hotter but without global warming the desert may turn into snow desert.

Today we went to the Grade 12's art exhibition this is what we thought.

I think the artwork shows what the artist is learning about and how they see things around them. The art gallery was full of artwork. I really enjoyed it. Amanda

I saw lots of paintings and clay sculptures that are very good. I learnt that the Grade 12's worked very hard with these paintings. My favourite was the Hamo Bay by Emma. I liked it because I didn't know if the sun was rising or going up or down, but I could see that she was putting so much effort into it.

There was this one art piece that had phones around it and they had all little faces in the phones. My question for it was how was it meant to make people feel, because I did not understand it, but I think it was about communicating and there was lots of different faces and they look like they were talking. I really enjoyed it.

I think the disco balls were the most interesting because they use other parts of magazines and made them into something else and it is also interesting, they try to tell you something. I think the message is people around the world are all the same.

There was one piece of art that I really liked it had a mirror in it and I wondered why they put a mirror . There was one that was really interesting it was a newspaper dress and they said that the artist can fit in it which is really cool. I enjoyed visiting the art exhibition.

Decomposing materials

Making Compost
We took plastic bottles and we had to write down all the things that we were going to put in the bottles to see if they would decompose. We made hypotheses of what we thought would happen. I think that the banana would rot first and the oranges and other foods made by nature, but the paper and the other things that the humans have made will take longer to disappear.

Decomposing MacDonald's Food Experiment Video
We watched a video of an experiment that measured the length of time it took for MacDonald's food to decompose.
This is what we thought.
I was surprised that the fries from McDonald's did not decompose after 10 weeks, but the fries from another restaurant using basic potatoes and frying did after 3 days. What happens when all the fries from Mc Donald go into our tummies?

Question form our composting experiment
Will the plastic and paper decompose in our compost bottles? I don't think it will but I will have to wait and see.

How does it take to dissolve and go all soggy?

We had lots of visitors come to our exhibition, it was great to share our knowledge on children's rights with our families and friends. We hope we got our messages across and that people take action.

Summative assessment presentations

On Thursday we had a mini expo for our summative assessment about Children's rights. I enjoyed the expo but was a bit nervous. We had to pick a right from what we had learnt about children's rights and share our knowledge and persuade people to take action. I did a painting about the right to education and my message was ' Some girls in the world can't go to school and I think that's wrong!'

What I thought about the summative assessment was that in the beginning I thought it was going to be really hard, but it was really easy and fun. I made a key note and the right I was doing was about the right to shelter. I only had a few questions from people who came to visit me at the expo. After finishing it I was really tired of talking so much and saying the same things, but I think it was worth it because I persuaded people to take action. I enjoyed the unit and I was wondering if we could make a field trip to build houses with Tabitha.
