Decomposing materials

Making Compost
We took plastic bottles and we had to write down all the things that we were going to put in the bottles to see if they would decompose. We made hypotheses of what we thought would happen. I think that the banana would rot first and the oranges and other foods made by nature, but the paper and the other things that the humans have made will take longer to disappear.

Decomposing MacDonald's Food Experiment Video
We watched a video of an experiment that measured the length of time it took for MacDonald's food to decompose.
This is what we thought.
I was surprised that the fries from McDonald's did not decompose after 10 weeks, but the fries from another restaurant using basic potatoes and frying did after 3 days. What happens when all the fries from Mc Donald go into our tummies?

Question form our composting experiment
Will the plastic and paper decompose in our compost bottles? I don't think it will but I will have to wait and see.

  1. So what did you learn? Did you come up with a hypothesis before to think about might dissolve first?
