Angkor Wat and Mine craft!
Today we started on a journey in which we hope to build Angkor Wat in Minecraft.
Mr Matt has designed us a village and our goal for our class is to build a temple complex like Angkor Wat in the mine craft village.
To make this successful we needed to know what the structure looked like. We began our inquiry into the building by looking at books, images on the computer/ Ipad and personal photographs. To get more detailed images we are going to research using Google Earth and Street level.

After looking at the building we then used building bricks, Lego or plastercine to make a physical model of the temple. We worked in groups and had great fun using your newly acquired knowledge to build our models.

The final stage was to take our ideas to the computer lab, work in teams and to start using Mine craft to construct our temple complex.

The Big Dig!

The Big Dig
We went to the Early Years Sand Pit to experience what it could be like to be an archaeologist.  Ms Muyhour has buried some old artefacts in the sand and we had to try and find them. We needed to think and behave like an archaeologist. Where would be a good place to start digging?
We got very excited when we found something!
It was harder to find things than we thought.

In my own perspective, I thought the big dig was much funner than the minecraft edu. Why I liked the big dig was because the big dig was funner. Why i liked the big dig more than Minecraft was  because we could experience the real thing and we could know how the professional archaeologists felt when they did the dig to find little artifacts. When we actually did Minecraft, we needed to  dig and only our hands got more hurt and the dig, we could  get our body dirty and and hand dirty so it was more fun and more realistic.

Who? Looking for Clues.

Tuning In
Where We Are In Place and Time

Looking for clues and evidence helps us to make sense of our world and to learn about the past.

7 teachers brought into class 4 items each. These were displayed on tables and the students had to guess using their knowledge of their teachers which objects belonged to which teacher.
Students asked questions together, analysed the clues, made connections and wrote down their ideas. At the end of the sessions the teachers revealed which objects belonged to each teacher.

The students were surprised by some of the answers!

Minecraft reflections

We learnt that in real life, digging is hard because in minecraft,we can dig more faster and when you dig, we get what we mined on the ground to your inventory.

Also,we learnt that if we work together,it is more easier to dig and we have to take out the layer not just dig deep holes or we might skip some important things like bones, or old pottery and even other stuff.

Minecraft reflection

I learned that it was hard to find the bones because they were deep in the ground and it was hard because you had to clear off the top grass blocks and it takes a long time to dig the top and the thing was it was good because it is easier to dig so it was easy and i am good at minecraft so it is easy for me to do it.

Minecraft Reflection

In minecraft we dig for a big dinosaur bone that is bigger than any real dinosaur bone. We don't know what type of dinosaur it is. It is hard to uncover the hole big dinosaur.
I learned that it is so hard to uncover dinosaurs. I also learned that it helps to work in teams on one spot. It also helps to wok in lines to dig. I learned that if you take the top lear off first then the second lear off it is easier.

I learnt that minecraft is the same when we went to the sand pit.
Minecraft is digging like when we went to the sand pit.
I also learnt that being Archaeology is fun and hard.
We played minecraft because it was about the dinosaurs bonus that is from the past.
We found the head and legs of the dinosaur bonus in minecraft.

What I learnt is that if we do not work together we can not find the hidden dinosaur because each of us are were in different spots and we just kept on going under by digging so next time the whole class should dig at the same place and work together in the same place and maybe we can do it. Luckily we are not  real archaeologists because we would have to dig so much and even when it rains maybe. It is a good thing we only went to the early years campus because it was not that deep.

We learnt in Minecraft that if you work together to dig you can find more and it will be fast if you don’t you won’t find anything if you do you will find a lot.

I learnt if you dig in layer then you can find more because then there are clues so then you can find things if you don’t then you’ll miss all the treasure.

We learnt that in Minecraft, it is easier to dig than in real life because in Minecraft you can dig faster and when you dig it, it doesn't go anywhere it goes to you inventory instead of somewhere else where your friend is digging.
I learnt that if you work cooperatively you can find more things in real life and in minecraft you can find somewhere big if you work cooperatively.
I learnt that In real life if you dig in a row you can find more things because when I was digging in a row I found a golden rock in the sand pit.
I learnt that some people didn’t work cooperatively so we missed some things that the teacher buried for us to find.
I learnt that some archeologist need to dig layers to find dinosaur bones because some can be shallow but you dig it very deep so you don't find it.
I learnt archeologist need to get the rock out carefully because there might be pottery and it is breakable.
I think it was very fun because we get to dig with our hand or shovel.

Mine Craft Reflection

I learnt that if you dig together you will dig faster and find more things.
If you dig in layers it is better because if you dig a hole you might break the bone or you will  miss the things that are at the sides too and if you dig deep you will touch the bottom layer and it is hard to get up but luckily we can teleport up. Digging in minecraft is more easier than digging in real life because to dig in minecraft it is just left click but in real life you have to use your hand and it will get sore when you dig a lot. I learnt that if you dig in layers it will be easier to find things and more safe to dig otherwise you will break things and you have to work as a team otherwise the sand will go in someone eye or mouth and if you dig separately  you will cover someones  hole.

Minecraft
Yesterday we did minecraft. and we learnt that it would be more easier if people work together because it wouldn’t take a lot of time. I learnt being a real archaeologist is harder than playing minecraft because digging in minecraft is easier than digging in real life. My class found one hole leg.

Minecraft reflection

I learnt that when you play the minecraft it is different than the normal minecraft because this minecraft teaches us about Archaeologist. I also learned that when you dig you need to dig in layers or else not a big hole cause then if you do you will miss out some things.

We are trying to find a dinosaur bone under the ground we do not know which dinosaur it is. So, we have to uncover all the dirt so we can find the bone and then we can discover what is the dinosaur . We have to be careful and not break the dinosaur bones.

I learned that minecraft it is hard to dig  and find out what  kind of dinosaur it is because it is hard to digit and the different between digging in the sand and minecraft. In minecraft is easy to dig.

Our class is learning about the past and we start a game call minecraft and we have to dig for dinosaur bones and we had a lot of fun doing it. We have to dig the top.

We learnt that in minecraft was easy to dig and in real life it was very hard. I learnt that we need to do head soil out then we can see the things buried in the ground.
