Visit by Donavan Christopher poet and Rapper

This week Donovan Christopher came to visit our school.  He is a Poet and Rapper from the UK.
This is some of what we learnt and felt about Donovan's visit.

Donavan Christopher has the idea to write poems from looking at some signs like on roads, at schools and library. the other thing i learned is R.A.P which stands for respect all peoples, rhyme all poems. i also learned that every poem needs to have words that rhymes and if we don't have words that rhyme it will be boring. We can also make our own R.A.P too. It needs a title and some rhyming words. poems can also have bits that you can sing.

I enjoyed it when we spelt my name and made it into a poem. I learnt from Donavan how ro rhyme words so that I could use them in poem. I liked reading his poems. I like best Rockman to the rescue.

Donavan writes Rap poems and raps. Raps stands for respect all people and more.
He inspired me to write my own raps because he made me think that raps is like a poem you can also make it fun. I also found that lots of people liked it.

I really liked how he got everyone involved in saying his rap poems. It was really good fun.

Donavan likes to make poems when he writes his poem he doesn't scribble  it out he uses the ideas and makes changes. It takes a long time to make poems and get them just right.

Donovan said that my name was really cool and it reminded him of Otis Redding. I thought it was good that everyone got involved in it and how everyone was singing along and it was really fun.

Ms Ashley came to talk to us today about how we can be a risk taker and talk out problems. We did some small role plays to learn how to solve problems.
We learnt to apologize and talk it out.

  • That when you apologize to someone you need to look at the persons eyes and talk calmly
  • To solve problems you need to talk it out calmly and not in an angry way
  • When you apologize you don't talk fast or in an angry voice
  • You really need to mean it!

Our Assembly on Healthy Habits

When we did the first song Happy I was really nervous but after a while I became less nervous and I really enjoyed it.
Lyka

I felt scared when I did the happy because everyone was around watching.  After that I did not feel scared. I think the assembly was fun.
Tommy

When I was doing the first song I was a little bit shy I was nervous when I had to speak but I felt I was brave and happy with myself. I was happy that my Mum and Dad were there to watch me.
Sak

When we did our last song ISPP I thought I was happy and so I think I sounded better then when I practiced.  I think the assembly went very well and I was proud of our class.

Data Handling - Healthy Habits

Today we learnt how to create a survey and make our own bar graphs. We choose topics from our healthy habits unit. Questions included: What is your favourite type of exercise, Choose a way that you like to keep calm and Which of these choices would you like for breakfast.
We made a survey of our choices and then asked people in the class to pick which one they liked. We used Tally marks to calculate their responses.
Finally we made a bar graph of our results.
